Action: Send an E-Postcard to President Obama, asking him to re-state his commitment to cutting poverty in half by 2020
Poverty is not a Republican or Democratic issue, it is a moral issue.
Our Scriptures command that we leave the corners of our field for the poor and the stranger, and mandates that “there shall be no needy among you (Deuteronomy 15:4).” Yet across the country, we continue to see rising unemployment, jobs that do not pay a living wage, and more families reliant on vital social services, including public health care, food stamps, subsidized housing and assistance for rising home energy costs.
As people of faith, we are called upon to hold ourselves, our communities, and our nation accountable to the moral standards of justice and compassion that are central to our religious traditions.
Join us in calling to President Obama to publicly restate his campaign promise to cut American poverty in half by 2020 during his 2011 State of the Union address. Join us as we ask his Administration to protect safety net programs and pass effective job creation legislation.
If not now, when?
Send this e-postcard to President Obama, urging to publicly re-state his commitment to cutting poverty in half in the next 10 years during his 2011 State of the Union address. This JCPA E-Postcard campaign is a project of the national Fighting Poverty with Faith mobilization. For additional action opportunities, visit www.fightingpovertywithfaith.com.
