December 01, 2011: Urge Congress to Extend Unemployment Benefits
03:51 PM Dec 01, 2011
As of November, the jobless rate in the U.S. was 8.6%, meaning 13.3 million Americans are currently unemployed. Of that, a startling 5.7 million have been without a job for 27 weeks or more. Despite steady growth in the economy, there are still millions of people who are trying desperately to make ends meet.
Benefits from federal unemployment insurance will expire on December 31st if Congress fails to take action. Representatives Lloyd Doggett (TX-D) and Sander Levin (MI-D) and Senator Jack Reed (RI-D) have introduced legislation that will extend federal unemployment insurance programs through 2012. Please write your Members of Congress and ask them to support this bill.
