Stand for Solidarity

As well as executive orders to build a wall between the US and Mexico and to cut federal funding to "sanctuary cities" such as San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda and East Palo Alto, President Trump has now signed an order barring entry to refugees from several Muslim-majority countries.

The consensus of the Bay Area Jewish community, as formulated in JCRC's Consensus Policy Statement on Immigration, reads in part that "a liberal American immigration policy, particularly with respect to family reunification and acceptance of refugees fleeing persecution, is fundamental to our nation's commitment to pluralism and its immigrant roots" and that "proposals or statements that have the intent or effect of exaggerating the significance of immigrants as the source of this country's or states' economic difficulties should be rejected."

As a community that has suffered persecution and even genocide, we know all too well the consequences of abandoning refugees. These decrees are an affront to our values and will undermine the democracy that has allowed us to thrive. Take action now to tell him that you stand in solidarity with the communities targeted and that these actions are in no way acceptable.

(Want to get more involved in these issues? JCRC will be hosting A Jewish Community Forum on March 19 to provide an opportunity to learn effective strategies for advocacy and the powers of government in our participatory democracy.)

This action is no longer active.
