poverty hands

Using one of the most evocative lines from the traditional Passover Seder – “Let all who are hungry come and eat” – the Jewish Council for Public Affairs has re-contextualized the historical message of redemption from slavery with the modern struggle faced by hungry people across our country by creating the Hunger Seder mobilization.

JCPA hunger-related Passover programs are a proven success – 2009 and 2010 Child Nutrition Seders, co-sponsored by MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, and related advocacy helped secure the passage of the Child Nutrition Act in November 2010.  The Child Nutrition Act is a hugely important law that funds school breakfast and lunch programs for low-income students.

We need your help TODAY to  send a powerful message to elected officials and to ask Congress to reinstate SNAP (food stamp) benefits and fully fund WIC (Women, Infants and Children) in the FY2012 budget.

To ensure no person in America goes hungry, we need you to hold a Hunger Seder in your community during the months of March or April 2011.  Below are some resources to help you hold your own Hunger Seder.  Please also look at the Legislation box below for more advocacy resources

•  2011 Hunger Seder Hagaddah

•  Local Hunger Seders (updated weekly)

•  Sample Letter to Congress

•  Paper Plate Letters to Congress

•  Hunger Seder Logo

•  Hagaddah Power Point

The JCPA gratefully acknowledges the inspiration from MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger in the development of the Hunger Seder Hagaddah.

Send your Representatives and Senators an electronic letter urging them to reinstate cuts to SNAP (food stamps) and fully fund WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).

This information will be regularly updated to reflect the current status of these programs, as well as the current status of budget proposals in Congress.
