Announcing the National Child Nutrition Seder

by Jared Feldman

JCPA will be hosting an exciting event in the United States Capitol on April 1, 2009.  Let All Who Are Hungry Come and Eat: A Child Nutrition Seder will be led by Rabbi Steve Gutow.  This event is also sponsored by Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger.  We are very excited that Senator Tom Harkin, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, has agreed to keynote this incredible event.  This national seder is a model for community Child Nutrition Seders that are happening all acros the country this Passover.  From coast to coast, communitites will host Child Nutrition Seders to raise awareness of childhood hunger and to organize for strong reauthorization of federal child nutrtion programs.

The Child Nurtion Reauthorization bill is one of the most significant pieces of anti-hunger legisation.  This program helps feed millions of children throughout the United States.  Unfortunatley, this current economic crisis has meant that more families are now dependant on federal, state, and local anti-hunger programs for full meals with proper nutrition.
