RE: URGENT JCPA Conference Call on Medicaid Advocacy - Thurs, July 21 at 2pm ET
Please join us for a conference call to discuss needed advocacy on protecting Medicaid
Thursday, July 21st - 2:00 pm ET
Call In Number - (218) 936-4700
Passcode - 379527#
With the negotiations about the debt ceiling, deficit reduction, and proposals for the FY2012 federal budget increasing in intensity, Jewish community advocacy is urgently needed to speak out for the protection of programs that provide critical assistance to vulnerable populations and millions of Americans in need. Prominent among the programs facing significant cuts and devastating restructuring proposals is Medicaid.
Join us for this important conference call to better educate yourself about the services provided under Medicaid, the potential impacts of proposed cuts and restructuring, and what JCRCs and Jewish leaders can do to advocate for the protection of Medicaid.
We are pleased to have with us for this call Jen Beeson, Director of Government Affairs for Families USA, offering a background and update on the threats to Medicaid and Ethan Roberts, Director of Government Affairs for the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, who will share a local perspective about the services provided by Medicaid and why Jewish community professionals should be concerned with the proposed changes to the program.
The JCPA has been working closely with The Jewish Federations of North America to prioritize and coordinate Jewish community advocacy on Medicaid in partnership with many other coalitions and groups. The JCPA has created a website (www.jewishpublicaffairs.org/medicaid) to act as a clearing house for the JCPA and JFNA’s Medicaid-related materials.
We urge JCRCs to work now to schedule meetings with your Members of Congress during the August recess and make Medicaid a priority issue for discussion. Requesting your meeting to happen as part of a site visit to a senior care facility or other community agency that provides services made possible through Medicaid funding is a highly effective way to personalize this advocacy and demonstrate the difference that Medicaid funding makes for your community. Please visit the JCPA’s Medicaid Toolkit (www.jewishpublicaffairs.org/medicaid) for sample letters to your Member of Congress and a How-To Guide on site visits.
Please join us for the conference call on July 21st and let the JCPA's Washington Office staff know about your advocacy work on Medicaid.
