Medicaid - the joint federal/state program that pays for medical assistance and long-term care for low-income and elderly Americans - is the principal source of health and long-term services for more than 50 million children, adults with disabilities, and Older Americans. This program extends the opportunity encompassed in the American dream to millions for whom disability and illness would otherwise present an insurmountable barrier. Under several prominent congressional proposals in both chambers, Medicaid would be restructured by capping funds flowing to states and/or creating a block grant formula. Block granting or capping Medicaid funds would result in the denial of health and long-term care to millions of vulnerable Americans.

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs is partnering with Jewish Federations of North Ameria to ensure that Medicaid remains a strong, federal entitlement program designed to protect the most vulnerable among us.

This website is designed to provide resources to the JCPA's member agencies and other Jewish community organizations abou the best and most meaningful was to protect Medicaid.

Local Site Visits

With proposed structural changes and budget cuts to the Medicaid program being proposed in Congress, it is critically important that Members of Congress understand the importance of this vital program and the cross-section of populations it serves. Seeing the impact Medicaid dollars has on local organizations and direct service providers can move an elected official to become a champion for the protection of this program. While Members of Congress are home for recess, we have a prime opportunity to host them for site visits to insure that they understand what services the Medicaid program offers and how the consequences of cuts would severely affect vulnerable people, professionals, and providers across the continuum.

Local site visits are one of the most important advocacy tools. Click here to see the JCPA-JFNA Local Site Visit Toolkit.
