Welcome to our First E-Update

The JCPA is launching the JCPA Update, an informal  round-up of JCPA and the larger community relations network's  on-going initiatives. The aim is to keep leaders of our network  informed on the latest issues, requests to the field, and  timely activities happening around the country.  This will not  replace our JCPActs to the community at large.

The JCPA Update will allow us to streamline emails and make our work more transparent.  To begin the process, we will send out the Update several times a month. If you would like to share an item  with the field through the JCPA Update,  please send it to Melanie Roth Gorelick at MGorelick@thejcpa.org.  We hope that you find it useful and are eager for your feedback!

JCPA Mourns the Death of Elie Wiesel - The JCPA mourns the passing of Elie Wiesel z”l, Holocaust survivor and Nobel Laureate. Wiesel played a gigantic role in the transformation of both Jewish and world consciousness. He told the story of the Holocaust, empowered survivors to bear witness, and reminded the world of its solemn duty to prevent other genocides. To read the full statement click here.

JCPA Lauds Supreme Court Ruling on Reproductive Health Care Decisions -
JCPA has long supported efforts to safeguard the spirit and impact of Roe v. Wade. The Supreme Court's decision in Whole Women’s Health v. JCPA Condemned the Orlando Shootings
- JCPA recommends  that donations go directly to Equality Florida’s GoFundMe account. GoFundMe is adding $100,000 to the account itself, effectively waiving its usual fees. Equality Florida is a well-regarded LGBT advocacy organization.   Click here to read JCPA's statement.

IAN Reports Grassroots Support for “Two States for Two Peoples” by the Presbyterian Church (USA). Despite overt hostility toward Israel by some church activists, the recent vote at the Presbyterian Church’s 222nd General Assembly amended an anti-Israel report that was intended to lead the church away from support for a two-state solution. IAN, a joint project of JCPA and JFNA, is profoundly grateful to the  church leaders’ who ensured a more balanced report and a commitment to a two state solution. Click here to read IAN's Statement.

IAN Gears Up for the Democratic and Republican Conventions By Honoring State Level Elected Officials Who Supported Anti-BDS Legislation - More than nine states have passed anti-BDS laws around the United States. IAN is sponsoring a reception during the conventions to thank state officials for their support. • JCPA signed on to an ADL lead letter of national partners supporting an amendment to the FY 2017 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, that seeks to add funding for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division (CRT) and for the Community Relations Service (CRS) to hire more attorneys and mediators in an effort to prevent hate crimes and more effectively investigate and prosecute them when they occur.
  • JCPA signed on to statement opposing school meals block grant provisions in the House Education and the Workforce Committee  Reauthorization (CNR) bill H.R. 5003 and urged JCRCs to do the same. The block grant would end the federal government's ability to increase funding in areas of need, enforce child nutrition standards in school meals, and ensure students receive enough nutritious food year-round. Check on FRAC’s Legislative Action Center  for more information.
